Sure it was Friday the Thirteenth today but I’m not superstitious (we even got married on Friday the Thirteenth – no fear). This morning was a lovely winter’s morning and here’s why I felt lucky.

Make your own cream

Post image for Make your own cream

Following on my last post about some aged cookware how’s this for a find? A vintage cream maker. With a striking mottled green bakelite section sitting atop a moulded glass base and a shiny pump handle who wouldn’t fall for it’s mechanical charms. Not me that’s for sure. And it works, I made cream!

As some of you know I’m a gatherer of old once-loved kitchen items. But they’ve got to be useful, no pretty to look at item that are cracked and leak. I like to make my rescued items work for their space and am rewarded with good looks and good vibes (not to mention it’s fun!).

Post image for A trifling dessert to end 2011: Chocolate & Pear Trifle

I’m not a huge dessert fan but I do like trifle and I do like chocolate and I quite fancied having an easy alternative to Christmas Pudding for Christmas Dinner. This chocolate, boozy trifle (can there be any other sort?) was a hit on the day and was even better a day or so after! It’s one I’ll be making again for sure.

They’re not all ground breaking but then sometimes the obvious things are just what’s needed. However, you should find something here to give (or to suggest to someone to give to you!).
