Strawberry Ladies Drink Tea

Yesterday I attended my first afternoon tea. Ever. That only occured to me after as I tripped off home. I mean I’ve had some ‘Afternoon Teas’ in designated tea rooms (like the Ritz and Fortnum & Mason’s ever so long ago). But this was my first one in someone’s home. Honestly, what kind of life have I led? One without enough girly fun, it seems.

Chocolate cake, clotted cream and strawberries

Well yesterday I put all that to right and attended a Strawberry Tea Afternoon fundraising event hosted by Signe in her lovely airy London flat. Most, but not all, of the attendees were foodie bloggers I had met or tweeted with and it was lovely to catch up and chat in person as opposed to online. The cause was an excellent one, Breast Cancer Care. Unfortuneately I don’t think there are many of us who don’t know of a loved one who has been affected in some form by that cancer. Breast Cancer Care, which is a wonderful charity, is running a Strawberry Tea campaign and  when food bloggers Julia and Signe found out they joined forces to organise the delightful afternoon. With kind donations of supplies from Rodda (de-lic-ious clotted cream), Lurpak, Rare Tea Company and Firefly together with feather-light baking from the gifted hands of Signe and Alex we ladies (and two brave men) babbled away on a sunny Saturday afternoon. Of course there were strawberries galore, not to mention cherries, raspberries, jams, cheese, Pimms and lots of laughter.

It's good to talk!

Scones get the Sig treatment before baking

Alex's gluten-free cupcakes, pretty AND delicious

Not everything was sweet!

So before the strawberry season fades away why not organise your Strawberry Afternoon Tea. It’s an excuse to dress up and indulge on an afternoon and do good at the same time. Or if that’s not an option … just donate directly. Only takes a minute.

Julia, Ailbhe, Rachel, Sig, Linda and Niamh indulge in some strawberry tasting

Tea anyone?

Just how many scones can you eat in one sitting?

Thanks Alex, it was a lovely bright room which helps and all the food looked so pretty anyway – including some fine cupcakes : )

Great snaps m’dear, and you modestly claimed you weren’t a good enough photographer for your sexy Canon camera! Hope to reprise Strawberry Tea again next summer, we should definitely make it an annual event xx

Thank you. Yes the suggestion of hosting Strawberry Teas is the current campaign for Breast Cancer Care. They provide party packs and full info on their website so it’s easy and fun to do. Click on the link to find out about Strawberry Teas.
