As anyone who knows me I’m not the tallest lady in town. And while most of the time it bothers me not, when it comes to shopping and the dreaded shopping bags I suffer from small person syndrome, namely heavy low-hanging bags on wee arms being a bit too close to the pavement for comfort. Result – I hate carrying stuff. And now since we sold our lovely 1970 VW campervan (gone to very good home) and OH changed jobs and the company car went back, we’ve been ultra-green and car free.
In an era of online shopping (MySupermarket is my preferred site) getting the larger grocery deliveries are a breeze but what to do for those days when you’ve let the planning slip a bit and have to go and buy some vital bits and pieces .. and while you’re at it some wine .. oh and just noticed we’ve run out of washing up liquid and… You get the picture. Well then what you need is … a shopping trolley.
And not just any old trolley. Ladies and gentlemen I give you MY shopping trolley.
Now admit it. This funky piece of design wasn’t what you had in mind when the words ‘shopping trolley’ were mentioned and I don’t blame you. But when I saw it last year I fell in love and had to have it. All Paul Smith-ish in its stripey charm. Not too girly, not too boringly practical. Plus it has great wheels, is well-balanced, brilliantly comfortable handle, has many exterior pockets and even has a insulated section. Fab-u-lous.
What’s more, I was so overcome with stripey love when I first saw this bag that I bought the fold-up travel shopping trolley version which has travelled to Paris (via Eurostar, but of course) where we’ve been spotted skipping through the markets at Place Maubert and Blvd Raspail. And I remained ‘tres chic’ which is ‘tres important’ in Paris! The larger trolley has been seen out and about in South London laden and lovely. Plus the insulated section keeps your chilly perishables chilly. Even if you decide to stop and have a coffee on the way home.
I’m now beginning to feel adventurous and am eyeing some of the London food markets further afield. The world is my oystercard. So say hello if you see me. I’m the short, well-fed lady with the stripey trolley clipping people’s ankles (ahem, only joking – now totally in control).
Don’t you just love good design? Made by Typhoon you can buy one here.

That is one fabulous trolley, it has got to be said! I love my trolley to bits – take it to Borough and Tooting markets every week, it’s so simple to shop with,
Good to catch up with you again at the weekend. Got back in time for champagne before dinner at Trinity – really great day all round!
Likewise to meet you again. Definitely must try Trinity now and stop talking about it.
